The constellation behind this stele
Orion — The Hunter
Visible from December to March in the Northern Hemisphere evening sky. Its principal stars are Betelgeuse (reddish, left shoulder) and Rigel (blue-white, right foot). The three belt stars Alnitak, Alnilam and Mintaka form a near-perfect line. Below the belt lies the Orion Nebula — a stellar nursery about 1,350 light-years away.
One of the oldest documented constellations; recorded in Mesopotamian and Egyptian sources.
