The constellation behind this stele
Flora — Asteroid 8 Flora
Unlike the other models, Flora is named not after a constellation but an asteroid: 8 Flora, discovered on 18 October 1847 by the English astronomer John Russell Hind and named after the Roman goddess of flowering plants.
About 128 kilometres across, Flora gives its name to a whole family of asteroids in the inner main belt between Mars and Jupiter. It orbits the Sun in 3.3 years and is visible as a faint point of light through larger amateur telescopes.
